They were the rage after being worn by Deepika Padukone in the movie Ram Leela. It's not a new addition in the kind of Indian jewellery that, we, Indian women have been lucky to sport. They have origins from the Mughal or Nizami times. It's so named from the crescent shape of the moon. Yet another example of how inspiration of nature is always so divine.

But I was quite unaware of the existence of Chand Bali till our lovely Bollywood heroines took it up on themselves to sashay around in them in every possible contemporary design available. Soon after I found myself lusting after them around local stores. Whenever I travel, too, I look for them. Some not so exquisitely designed but still favorable enough to desire one in the collection.

Earlier I used to see them sold in stores selling temple jewellery, with the stud designed as either Lord Ganesha or the Goddess Lakshmi, and the lower crescent dangling with white pearls. Now, they come in various designs with added pearls, colored stones, kundan, glass and other pretty beads. Some of them are really heavy as a friend who bought from flipkart told me she had never expected it to be so heavy to carry around.

Even though it is traditional in design you can pair them with your saree, anarkali or a formal gown. They are quite the attention grabber and can pull your look together without the need for other accessories.

You can also find them in silver stores like the above and I have also seen them made in gold. I think it will look perfect for your special days, weddings and gala events. I am keeping an eye out for one myself so I can keep a few in my collection. Though if you are looking for it in the yellow metal, they don't come cheap because of the making charges.

Still, I feel it is way prettier than a pair of diamond earrings. With the upcoming festivals like Ganesh Chathurthi, Diwali, Eid is already over, I can see pieces flying around like hot cakes at the stores.
I hope you have enjoyed viewing the pieces I had picked out for the blog. I felt I would show you what's on my lust list since ages now. I am not into big, showy earrings and have always been a simple, stud person. But these earrings have done me in with their exquisite designs.
When I am done with my Chand Bali search, I will put up a pic of what I got but I have not zoomed in on the final piece or pieces that I want. Till then, wish me happy shopping ;)
