It's Raining The Body Shop's New Rainforest Coconut Hair Oil -Review

Can you think of a better time to use the Body's Shop's rainforest coconut oil than during the monsoons?
I have pretty good hair. I can owe it to good genes, a superior protein diet during childhood and good old coconut hair oil. But the thing is, as much as I like the smell of freshly made coconut oil there were times I disliked it. For instance, when it sits on your locks for a couple of hours especially when you can't get it off with a good old shampoo wash, and when you are lazy, the smell goes a bit rancid before you wash your hair again. I have to be in the mood to use it. But not anymore. Have you girls heard of TBS's new launch? This coconut hair oil completely beats the rest. I mean it.
The Body Shop states that this luxuriously silky hair oil melts effortlessly into your hair creating the perfect overnight, leave-in, pre-wash treatment or the optimal nourishing accompaniment to scalp massage.
Reveals hair that is soft, shiny, strong with a healthy scalp.

Ingredients- Community Fair Trade Coconut Oil, Organic Amazonian Pracaxi Oil
Now, What is Pracaxi oil exactly?
In the Amazon, there is a popular tree called Pracaxi known for it's oil which is obtained by cold-pressing it's seeds and flesh, using no solvents or chemicals.Organic!
Pracaxi seed oil has been used for many generations for hair, to treat skin spots, acne , de-pigmentation and reduces scars. It also helps to hydrate and treat at a cellular level. Hence it can be incorporated into a wide variety of hair and skin care products. Wow! I must check labels to see if this is there in any other skin care products from body shop!
I think this is  now one of my favourite Body Shop product to date. The oil is light-weight. I can describe the texture to be in between that of an oil and a serum. Hence it has also replaced my need for a serum now. Most serums are loaded with chemicals, anyway.
Since it is an oil, I use very little of it in the place of serum.
As an oil, I use it thrice a week to calm down frizz and condition my hair.
I have noticed my hair becomes very shiny, smooth, voluminous and SOFT when I use this.
I keep touching my hair because of the way this oil leaves it nourished and healthy.
The oil looks yellow in the bottle but it is colourless.
Not odourless though, it has a faint smell of something very light and pleasant. Not floral but a very comforting almost tropical smell. But it does not really smell of coconut in any way.
It helps to reduce frizz and tames down fly aways.
I have also noticed in the ingredient list that there is rosemary extract, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil in addition.
Definitely my go-to oil for the monsoons as you require deep moisturization for your tresses.
It is not so greasy but requires a good shampoo to wash it off.
You don't need much quantity to coat your hair strands.
The icing on the cake is that it contains organic oil. Also the product is free from parabens.
It's definitely a re-purchase for me. The price may seem exorbitant for an oil but it is worth it and should last you a couple of months.
Rs.645 for 200ml of product.
I give it a 5/5 rating.

What is your favourite hair oil that helps reduce frizz?

ps- This product has been sent to me by the brand but in no means does it affect my opinion/review of the product.

    1. thanks, Riya. Straightening uses such harsh chemicals. The over all end result looks great but the damage takes time to outgrow.

    1. I really like this and am using it happily these days. Plus with the monsoons, my hair has been drying out like crazy so this really is a great product. They just mailed me in asking if I could review it :) thanks, Naz.

  6. Hi Coral,

Have you tried using cold pressed tender coconut oil? I found a supplier a while ago and he supplies really lovely cold pressed coconut oil extracted from fresh coconuts, not the dried variety. I add 1% of tea tree essential oil and .5% lavender essential oil to mine and oil my hair with it. It has a really subtle scent, not heavy and coconutty at all and absorbs beautifully into the skin.

Ping me for more details, I'm sure I can dig out the supplier's details for you.

    1. Hey Soul. Thank you for the heads up. Yes, we do make our own cold pressed coconut oil. But since it's free from additives it gets spoilt really soon. Would love to know your supplier. Send me their details. I really like the recipe of yours.
