Shingar Kajal Stick Review

Take her Kajal away and you will find every Indian girl rummaging through her cupboard to find her lost treasure. Kajal is one of our priceless possessions and I am on the man-hunt, errr... make that "kajal- hunt"
for the deepest, darkest, truest and purest kajal there ever is in my country. On one such rummage through the Mangalore markets, I came across this beauty.

Shingar is synonymous with sindoor and so it was nice to note they make these compact, modern- kajal sticks.
I think it's been there for a very long time, it's just that I didn't search hard enough. There was another variety there too, I think it was called Blue heaven and there were rows of both of these stacked all the way up in most stores. I will try that one as soon as am done with this. But I have to say this is a very pretty kajal, girls!
As you can see it's extremely affordable at a price point of only Rs.12. Heaven!!! There are no list of ingredients though but after using it for a while, I can vouch for it being safe to the eye.
That's how big it is as you can see it in my palm. It's tiny. But worth every penny. And it being so travel-sized gives one the option of carrying it anywhere with you.

This is what the kajal is shaped like when you open the cap. It's very matte, doesn't look too shiny or glossy. It is not very soft on first use but it becomes less firm with use, not like very creamy or soft but firm enough to keep applying it over and over again. I really like this about this stick.
This photo depicts swatches of the kajal swiped lightly in varying thickness and the picture has been taken without flash. You can see that the kajal is quite pigmented. I was quite surprised, did not expect this from 12INR.
This picture is taken with flash, the kajal looks more intense here. Though in person it doesn't look this intense. Pictures without flash show the true colour.
I have very lightly applied it to the root of my lashes, I don't want it to be seen at work so I applied with a very thin and quick stroke.
Here I have applied it darker and you can see it now.
Now all you need to do is get going and finding out if this product is really for you, as for me I am quite happy with it's staying power but it doesn't last hours, maybe under two hours. There is a little streaking but will not make you terribly panda-eyed. I am still on the search for that kajal that stays put on your waterline for hours and hours. I like one thing about this and that's the awesome- cooling medicinal effect, must be of the camphor, when I apply this one. I feel so refreshed, I feel like going over the application several times but Lord! I hope I don't :)

What else- there is no stinging, itching or pain experienced with this. It gives a matte black appearance, nothing too shiny or glossy. Best thing would be to not touch it for ten minutes to let it set and then it pretty much stays that way unless you wash your face and forget you have kajal on. Then you might need to touch up and clean the mess.

Hole in your pocket: A measly 12Rs!!! Worth a try

    1. Hi :) The best kajal I have tried is from Chambor. But from the time I tried it two years back, they have launched a few more varieties which I believe will be really good. I am hoping to get myself the new Maybelline Colossal Kajal which is priced at Rs.150 and the Chambor kajal, would also like to try from Revlon. Hope this helps you when you come down to India. Am sure the new formulas will last long. Chambor eye tattoo is really good but am sure they have released newer versions in Chambor, it's been a while since I checked their counter.

    1. Hihi yes, we girls get bored soon, so hope maybelline comes up with something even more colossal to keep up our interests in their kajal line :) I like lotus too but it smudges. there's something better than hashmi in the market now, it's from pakistan too and a darker black, i just can't recollect the name.

    1. Shingar even makes kajal for babies, it's worth a try but it's not going to be smudge-proof like maybelline or other renowned brands. Yes, heard so much about Lotus. Glad you are finding Maybelline so awesome, will get it :)
